Obd1 check??

So none of the parts houses ive gone to have an obd1 scanner.. One guy told me to use a paperclip an count the flashes... But where the hells the paper clip supposed to go..? Ive never scanned an obd1.. Any help would be appriciated

I wish I had the scanner itd be alot easier I just wanna see wat comes up since ive only had my 94 for a month n kts gotta rough idle almost like the fuel pumps goin out..
