Heads for a 86 mustang?

Do I need to change the pistons in my motor? I have a 86 GT and wonder if they are the flat top forged pistons. Wanna put AFR or trick flow heads on.

If its the original motor then yes you have flat tops. I believe you can run the trickflows and a mild cam without changing the pistons. You can likely have them notched cheaper than getting pistons, and it would give you some clearance.

That's what I thought. I would buy buy a used 5.0 motor out if a 87 to 92 mustang. Don't want to ruin the original motor in my car. It's pretty nice and low miles. You know what kind of HP a top end kit gets and what it will run in the 1/4 mile? I have a B303 cam.

The trickflow kit is rated at 350 hp. It should easily be low 13's possibly high 12's with the kit.
