Ignition problems

Ok so someone tried to steal my car. I had to replace the igntion switch connecter and put my switch itself back together. Now I'm having problems with my lock cylinder so I just replaced it also but the new one didn't help my problem. When I turn the key it spins freely after you turn it to the on position. I think they used a screw driver and damaged in inside of the switch where the cylinder slides into. Does anyone know if that's a part of the actual steering colum or is it something I can just replace?
