Not getting Fuel!!!

Hi All. This is my first post, so it will also serve as my intro. I got a 1995 5.0 GT a few months ago for my stepson. I told him it was going to be a 'work in progress' and would take a lot of tinkering to keep it running well. He put a few things into it; a cold air intake, being the only real engine mod at this point. Anyway, his mother and I paid to have a new exhaust system put in with the understanding that he would pay us back once he started out in the navy (he leaves for boot camp in July- nuclear field). He has since gotten another car and basically sold me the mustang back for what he owed us in labor- $1000! Now, that being said, I love driving this car- when it runs. Here is the problem:

It isn't getting fuel. I have changed the fuel filter, the ignition module and checked the MAF sansor. I finally got a multimeter and checked the ignition coil. The manual says it is supposed to have .8 to 1.6 ohms resistance between the primary coils. Mine has 0.5 ohms. The other readings were within tolerances. Could .3 ohms cause this thing to not fire properly?
I've also thought that I might drop the fuel tank to see if there is garbage in there clogging up the line, and while I'm in there, I would be able to check the fuel pump and sending unit. The car will not start at all right now, but the last time it was running, I listened carefully to the way it ran, once it started acting up. I initially thought the ignition mod was going bad again, but it wasn't overheating. The car ran like it was about to run out of gas... coughing and sputtering. When I pressed the gas, it bogged down, and when I feathered the gas pedal it tried to run. I was able to coast into a parking lot to get it out of harm's way and let it sit for a while. Normally, it woul re-start after sitting for some time, but this time, it seems to be permanent.

Please help!:dunno:

Re: Not getting Fuel!!!

sounds like a fuel pump going out, the way you feathered it tells me its not an ignition problem.

Re: Not getting Fuel!!!

when you turn the key to the run position ( the one before cranking the engine) do you hear the pump prime? if not, there could be an electrical problem or most likely the pump has gone bad. If the car will crank you can also hook a gauge to the valve on the fuel rail and see of there is pressure. Like SimplyOrange said, it def sounds like a fuel issue.

Re: Not getting Fuel!!!

Thanks. When I get home (I'm in Florida right now, going to my younger son's HS graduation), I guess I'll bite the bullet and pull the fuel tank. Do you think it's the pump itself, or the sending unit?

mine was the pump. It's easy enough to figure out I'm sure. We replaced the entire drop in unit and everything was well again.
