Need help with gt40 and cam choice

Alright so as we all know... It's tax time.

My uncle and rest of the family are due hard Chevy guys. I wanted to be a black sheep that could put em in their place.. So I got a 87 gt 5 speed to play with.

I am looking for any information on gt40 and gt40p heads as well as intakes for my 5.0 and cam options. I want a hell of a good street car that will run like a scolded dog.

If you can help please call me anytime I'm up all hours5672047113 I'm in Ohio as well if ya know of any parts or happen to have a set I can buy!

---------- Post added at 01:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:01 AM ----------

I am curious if there's a good cam kit I can use with those heads and intake as well as what all will be needed. A list would be exceptional!

If you haven't already you'll need to swap over to Mass air before getting that deep with a Heads/Cam/Intake swap

TFS stage 1 is a good cam to use with these heads. I would change valve springs, roller lifters, and pushrods while you're at it. Either set of heads is a good choice. Header clearance will be a little tight with the P heads.

Also, a MAF from a 94-95 mustang (70mm stock) and a TB from an explorer (65mm stock) can be used with minimal alterations. Explorer, gt40 tubular, or 93 cobra intake.

You can use them with either set of heads. Like I say, headers will be a tight fit with the P heads.

Remember: Power is made by the combination of parts working TOGETHER.

Not a bad choice, that's the combo I'm running at the moment.

If they are low mileage heads you don't have to but it doesn't hurt to put some fresh springs in. They can handle the lift but you may have valve floating issues in the higher RPMs with the stockers.

MAC and FRPP both make "P" specific headers if you don't already have headers, they make it a lot easier to use the "p" heads. I know other headers can work with them like the BBKs but they are justas bad with plug clearance.

Are the afr heads 165s or 185s? I have read numerous stories about low piston to valve clearancing with those heads. I have also seen people get away with decent size cams. Let us know how much ptv clearance you have when you install those. Even a small write up would be much appreciated.
