Re: 95 GT Auto Tranny Limits?
I've seen stock AODEs running 400rwhp on drag radials and living, but it is a crap shoot. The stock converter is usually not happy with that kind of power. Another issue to consider is that the stock transmission/tune usually cannot shift fast enough on a high powered car (the revs build too quickly for the stock shift points to shift before you hit the limiter). This can all be fixed in the tune but it is another item to consider.
Lastly, going WOT into 4th gear will kill the band relatively quickly, it just cannot hold the power. I like to setup my automatic tunes to keep the car OUT of 4th at WOT in case the driver forgets to disable overdrive.
Most (myself included) move to a v6 4R70W transmission which is an AODE with stronger parts and a wider ratio in the lower gears, an upgraded converter stalling around the start of the cars powerband and a shift kit (Jmod). This transmission has to have a couple things taken over from the '95 transmission (tailshaft, solenoids) but it is a straightforward procedure.
If you need more detailed information let me know and I'll be happy to help.
