Depends on how much. Are they the X or P? Are they going to need work? Any idea if they need Valves, springs, or milled? How many miles are on them? You will need an intake to get the most out of them too.

Aluminum versus cast iron.
Did they come aftermarket or from an explorer? 600 not a bad price for used if they do not need any work. Hard to tell if they are good though without them being looked at by a professional. Are they off the car already?

I'm doing a gt40 build right now. I was told by my machine shop: ported and polished heads with stiffer springs, ported and polished intake, and a Trick Flow stage 1 cam, an I'd be making about 275 RWHP. I have all supporting mods though. (24lb injectors, 65mm TB, 90MAF, etc...)

Stock gain is gonna be about 45 crank hp, give or take. If you're gonna do a cam, upgrade the springs. It's worth it to port and polish. The Trick Flow kit is only about 300 +/- ish RWHP.

I guess it's been awhile since I looked a prices for heads for my 95. In the Dallas area used gt40p heads are going for 300. I think you could do better.

I am 60 miles south of DFW. P heads are even cheaper, and serve the same purpose, with slight header clearance issues. I bout my full set up off Craigslist at a damn good price. Just doin machine work to get all I can.

The 94-95 computers do not like major mods. If you plan to change it out or get a custom tune than you options open up more. I had edelbrock performer heads and performer RPM intake (basically the same as gt40x and cobra intake) with a b cam and could barely keep it from dying at the stop lights. It certainly woke her up though and the lope sounded great. No problem pulling on the new edge GTs with that set up. I also had to worry about emissions too.

Yup. Grab the injectors and computer while your at it. You will still need a cam at least to get the power out of that set up. The cobra cams are a bit more aggressive than the GTs but not even close to a decent aftermarket. ---------- Post added at 10:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:53 PM ---------- And...if you get the injectors you will need a new Mass Air sensor.

Stiffer springs are recommended with these heads as the explore cam was VERY weak. I would go e303 or TFS stage 1. Remember: power is the combination of al parts working together.
