Newb!

(posted in classic mustangs forum first) newb...
Hi everyone just checking in, Just bought a 1987 Mustang right before the military shipped me to Japan for 3 years, had a 351w stroked that i had plans for it to go into a 1956 f100, long story short the truck is many years from being ready for a motor, so i got the mustang to drop the motor in and get it going. It still hasnt been cranked yet trying to get little things together that i still need for the motor. Here is a few pics. Look forward to learning a lot this is my first mustang.

Thanks for all the responses! Cant wait to hear that monster fire up for the first time! Also thanks for the support, this motor i actually dropped off at the machine shop on camp lejune the day before i deployed to afghanistan, had the guy do all the block work and take his time on it until i got back then we assembled it at his shop, shortly after my wife and i got orders to japan for three years so here i am a year into it and still havent heard it run yet!! So you could imagine how anxious i am to get it going! Any suggestions on break in oil or neutral harmonic balancers?

Engine Size?

i was wondering if i anyone knew what size my motor is, it has a 4.00 crank, and .040 overbore, origionally the guy who did my engine said it was going to be a 408 but that was .030 over. Anyone know?

I may be wrong I'm new to this but it can be a 408 and be bored .030 or .040 I think the 4.00 crank and bigger 6.2 rods makes it a 408? And if your crank was 3.85 would make it a 393....I'm sure someone will jump in and correct me soon I am new to engines so I'm not positive on this so don't take my word on this lol

A 408 is a 4.00" stroke with 4.030" bore. A 393 is a 4.030" bore with a 3.85" stroke. So if its bored .040 over it would make it a 410. There is a formula you can use to get the answer. You take .7854, why? I dont know but it is pi divided by 4, but anyway .7854 x cylinder bore squared x stroke x number of pistons. So 4.030 squared is 16.240, stroke is 4.00 and 8 cylinders. .7854x16.240x4.00x8= 408. And that concludes todays math lesson. Quiz on monday.
