Foxbody Ball Joints

I own a 91 GT. I hear a 'popping' noise when turning hard to the left or right. Kinda reminds me of bad ball joints. So I get out my Chilton repair manual and according to it, the ball joints cannot be replaced without replacing the entire control arm. Why would that be if replacement ball joints are available? CONFUSED

Yeah I had both of the ball joints replaced on my fox body. I definitely didn't do it myself so I have zero experience, but I know the guy I always bring my cars to was able to do it no problem.
