Maf to my 88 gt

Bought BBk tuned maf from AM and am converting my gt to run on it, have a harness from pcm to engine off 90 model & changing car from auto to 5-speed, there is a pcm in car but need one that will work in a pinch for cheap. Can't find any in salvage locally and part houses have to call suppliers, any ideas

The mass air computer isnt exactly plug and play. You have to move a few eec pins to new locations and add a few others also.

Let clearify, I have the 88gt shell only that still has the computer and dash harness. Everything else I have is 89+ newer including the motor, trans , rearend is a 97 gt w/ disc brakes, fronts are 98 spindles n hubs w New ball joints, I have taken a 91 gt vert and put everything into a 88 vert in past but in hate my drop top due to can't drive it fast without fear of losing the top. I just want to know which pcm #'s are good n can I run one even if its for an auto or not

There are two, APL and A9L. The A9 is the one for manual transmission cars and to my knowledge can only be used with a manual trans. The AP is the one from automatic cars and can be used with both autos and manuals. You said the car still has the original computer? Do you know where the car came from? 88s built in California came with mass air.

It's the a9l and the a9p. The a9l is manual p is auto.

I would run whatever PCM the harness you have came with. If the harness came out of an auto just use the auto ECM.

Hey slowstang, the MAF harness I have didn't have a computer at the end, someone already picked it up as I got it salvage, the body I bought has a computer in it but it is a southeast car so no MAF on it. Checking on a 93 cobra pcm refurbished from part house as alternative, any idea's on that

The cobra computer will work, but it is calibrated for 24lb injectors. So you will need 24lb injectors and a mass air flow sensor calibrated for them.

No need for a calibrated maf sensor because its calibrated for 19lb like the gt. the calibration is only in the ECM.

IMO I would get a regular 5.0 ECM due to the program in the cobra ECM. It would be easier to upgrade down the road since most of the aftermarket is calibrated for the regular 5.0 tune as well.
