Intakes?

I have a 91 gt and I wanted some feedback on a good intake what do you think about Edelbrock RPM II Intake or trickflow r series keep in mind I am putting afr 165 heads bbk long tube headers Bassani Stainless X-pipe w/ Bassani Stainless Cat Back and vortech supercharger 7-9 lbs

Ported Cobra/GT40/Exploder intake by Tmoss. Mates perfectly to the AFRs, best torque curve of any intake, won't run out of air on those heads or your blower.

The Edelbrock Performer RPM II & the Holley System Max II are the 2 intakes I will always use

I think if you want to run the rpm range they Systemax II and the RPM 2 then buying the afr 165's are a mistake. While the AFR 165cc are considered by many to be the best street head they dont work best with every part available. To run a RPM2 or Systemax II intake and dont want to have to pay to port your heads to run them take a look at RHS's 180cc heads. Or I would take scotty's advice and run a explorer intake from tmoss if you are dead set on the AFR 165's. Also should you run the AFR's the AFR heads have a 80% exhuast output which means you will need to run a dual profile cam to see their maximum potential.

FYI: AFR heads are a mistake on a boosted car because of their high exhuast output that works better with a dual profile cam, this kind of settup is better for nitrous than supercharging. Take a look at FoxLakes TFS twisted wedge Stage 1 ported heads to maximize your boost power and use a single profile cam more suited for blower cars. The TFS heads also are a better choice for your supercharger combination as they will grow with the next level of porting should you ever go past 600+rwhp. If you dont have the money to port the TFS heads they will still work better unported on boost aplications than the AFR's.

To get past even 450-500whp he's going to need a dart block anyway. Even untouched GT40s with a supercharger will get it there.

What I would do if I was doing a stock block 5.0 again with a blower:

-Stock shortblock, 92-down if you can find it for the forged pistons but hypers will be fine if that's all that's around or if your motor is running fine and has hypers.
-Gt40 heads, cleaned up/checked/valve job and DIY grind down of the EGR bumps
-Tmoss Cobra intake
-Stock cam
-Longtubes, midpipe, good catback
-S trim
-Good dyno tune to 425-450whp

Call it a day. Any more than that and you are really risking the block so I don't see the point of going crazy with high price parts when the OEM/budget stuff will get you there and the stock block can't take advantage of all that power potential anyway.

Good points scotty but if im spending any amount of coin on heads its going to be the Twisted Wedges over the GT-40's. At least that way if I want my combination to grow I can send them out to be ported to work with what ever power range Im looking for. And from that aspect I would use the Paxton Novi 2000 over the vortec peice also for its ability to grow should you ever want to purchase a aftermarket block and stroker and go to the next level of performance. And I too would use the stock cam and upgrade to a B303 later if I wanted to go past 450RWHP. Also a dart block isnt the only option to support 500+RWHP. A stock 351w block will support up to around 600rwhp. Should he ever make this swap as many do instead of buying an aftermarket block the TW heads and Novi are still reuseable.

My answer to your question about intake manifold my answer stays the same with a TFS Street Heat intake like the TW heads they respond well to porting and will grow with your combo. And use the Twisted Wedge heads instead of the high priced AFR's that arnt really for boost aplications anyway. Both the TW heads and Novi charger will save you coin in the long run should you decide to want more. And it is my experience that yes you will eventually want more even its years from now. You know what they say Horsepower is a like Drugs the more you get the more you want.

It's funny you say the novi 2000 cause that was the one I had in mind as well as the trickflow TW that combo been around a long time and seems to work well for a lot of people, but I'm getting this stuff done for a performance shop and this is what he put together knowing I'm doing a supercharger but it just didn't feel right to me but I also don't know as much as they do here you guys check it out.

-34# injectors, too small, run 42s
-$1200 for an intake... hope that comes with a tube of KY... even $600 is a lot...
-Re-use your stock valve covers
-No such thing as a "custom comp cam" they're all canned grinds. Call Ed Curtis at ftiperformance.com
-Bassani stuff is nice but pricey, maybe look at Magnaflow if you want a stainless system that sounds great and fits perfect and isn't as much.
-Edelbrock water pump is a waste, Motorcraft unit is fine

There are some other things I see but it's not my car. This is a prime example of why I hate shops. I mean I do all my own work and I know not everyone can but I could do a block splitting combo for less than half that. Easy. Dude isn't even factoring in a good dyno tune either which is another $600. Don't even want to think about the labor charge on this thing which is another reason I do all my own work lol.

With that said, this isn't nearly as bad as some of the shop quotes I've seen, at least this guy put a half decent combo together that will get you there. But as I said before if you are not going to go with an aftermarket block you are limited to 450ish rwhp and a simple GT40/stock cam combo with a fuel system and a $1500 S-trim supercharger will get you there.

Labor was 2000 and they did put in a dyno it all comes to around 11000 I didn't want to build on my block but the first quote came to 21000 with using a boss 302 performance block that was way to crazy I'm trying to get around 500hp on original block I wish I was more like you and do it my self but I just don't know enough

I have some time to work it all out cause I'm starting with brakes and rims first need to stop before I can go fast lol thinking of bear or wilwood for brakes and BBS CR for 18 for rims

500rwhp on a stock block isn't going to last long an if you spent 11,000 on it an splits then your 11,000 is gone out the window i have a stock block in my that I bought off my buddy he spent little over 10,000 for it I picked it up off him for 3500 an I still wouldnt go pass 425rwhp an I only spent 3,500 bucks haha i don't want my block splitting well Im using it for a DD in the summer lol

I wouldn't drop $4k on a stock block motor with a cast crank, hyper pistons and "swirl port heads" (gt40x heads guaranteed). Like seriously?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, with the stock 302 block, leave it stock. Find a low mileage one out of a Mustang or Exploder, slap a set of decent heads, stock cam, cobra intake and supercharge. Instant 450whp, stock drivability, cheap, will win against those $thousands of dollar forged NA strokers in a race. Forging the stock block is like putting a ferrari engine in a buick. Great, rotating assembly good for 1000hp in a block only good for 450-500...

Lol there is ZERO reason to rebuild that motor. Do all your "bolt ons" get a explorer intake to swap in there (the 1st run explorer that has the EGR functions so you can keep it emission legal if you need to). Holy crap if I had a 34k original mile 5.0 motor... wow... looks great.

Even with the stock E7 heads it'll make a good 400whp with a S trim, the basic mods and intake swap...

The kenne bell is a good blower for sohc an dohc but on push rod motor its not that good it has what they call heat stroke it has really high temps going throw the intake runners an can make the motor over heat quickly an robs power but iv only hear that never used one but I met a guy that did an that's what he said an he had to put a ice bag on the blower after ever pass to keep it running coniston times I'd go with the vortech over a kenne bell but I'd buy a prochager before all haha
