R134a freon conversion

So I have a 91 gt, the ac needs to be recharged and obv R12 isn't around anymore so does anyone know of any alternatives or have experience with converting the system to R134a? thanks so much

You are supposed to have the R12 professionally collected because it is an ozone depleting agent IIRC. Most ppl just stick a screwdriver in the valve with a glove and vent it into the air lol. After that, install a R12 to R134a adapter (the R134 uses a bigger quick disconnect) and then have it vacuumed and serviced with the 134a. That really is it. You can buy a vac/service kit at any box store if you are DIY.
