Starting issue

I have an intermittent start problem. I turn the key and have battery and fuel pump is heard doing its job, then when it should crank...nothing. I already replaced the ignition switch. Any ideas? Bad solenoid is my guess. How can I be sure?

Try to jump the solenoid with a screwdriver and see if that kicks the starter, then you will know more. Just lay it across the two posts.

I'm sure that will work, because it still starts, how can I eliminate it or single it out?

I thought you said after the fuel pump primes you get nothing... But then you say it still starts? I am confused.

Check your connection to your battery terminals. If it only happens sometimes and other times it will start right up it sounds like your it some wires jumping around losing connection. Happened on my 95 gt when I bought it.

Battery connections are solid. So, what I mean is that sometimes I'll turn the car to on, let the fuel pump cycle, and then it won't start. I'll turn the key back to off and do it again, then it starts?! Sometimes it takes 3 or 15 or 1 attempt to start it.

Like sn95 said, if sometimes you get nothing and other times it starts fine then it could be a loose connection. I would check connection at the solenoid and also your grounds that are on the body or engine block.

I'll check all connections tomorrow. That's one of the first things I checked, but only on the solenoid, so I'll check grounds.
