best way to clean and paint an engine

Well I have my 302 pulled and on a stand and was thinking of sand blasting and painting it the guy I got it from painted it red without priming or even cleaning it and it is peeling and looks like crap. Anyone got any tips or advice for getting it as clean as possible without damaging anything and ready for paint....thanks

I took mine to a shop and $200 later it was blasted, cleaned and painted. Looked brand new.

Sand blaster would be the best. You can get cheap sand blasters if you have a compressor
