Depends on what sound your looiking for an h pipe will be deeper and have a little more crackel on the decel. An X-pipe has a more race car sound. Most people pair chambered mufflers with an h and straight throughs with an x pipe. Its really all about the sound your looking for.

At any rate get rid of the stock H pipe and save it for emissions days if you have them. O/R H vs X... whichever one sounds better they are all within a few hp of each other.

We've talked about it before, I know we have a thread started somewhere to post a video and list the setup somewhere. It was meant to be a sticky. I'll do some searching tonight and see if I can find it and make the sticky happen.

A closed sticky with only moderators allowed to add to it might be good so it doesn't get cluttered up, a few other forums I belong to have something like that. Like links to all the different kits and youtube videos of them on our cars. And a few blurbs about chambered vs straight through, headers vs stock manifolds etc...

I'm going to start one for everyone to post in shortly. Going to try to keep it to videos and exhaust setups only and delete everything else.

Hopefully it will help deter the amount of " what setup" questions.

That would be great, I don't have a problem with questions, it just seems like it would be a usefully sticky, even if it only said

"Exhaust sound, resonance and loudness are a matter of preference. Off road or catless X pipes perform the best, they are loud and raspy. H pipes will give you a deeper sound more akin to the classic muscle sound. There is very little difference in performance. Long tube headers will generally perform the best as well, equal and unequal length shorties are a close(ish) 2nd. Long tubes may scrape if lowered, they are a PAIN IN THE ***. Mufflers are what will 'tune' your exhaust sound, GO LISTEN TO YOUTUBE VIDEOS!"

I know. Lol. Just going to post some of that general logic in the main post so everyone can just refer to it.

Bought sn95 3 years ago and it had a full mac setup from shorties to a prochamber H to flowmaster super 44's. I liked the tone and performance but i was having bad clearance issues.. Think my t56 tranny had something to do with it.. Smashed it enough i need header gasket.. Ended up doing motor mounts and a full magnaflow o/r x magnapack kit.. Helped with my clearance and sounds raspy and nasty race car with that 5.0 growl still.. Kept the old setup for a future fox project.

It all comes down to a matter of preference. My 91 GT has no cats with shodty headers and an H-pipe into Flowmasters. Good throaty deep sound

I had the same setup back in 2002 with a 91 GT except the flows were dumped... I had to turn the radio up all the way on the highway to hear it and after a 2 hour drive home my ears would be ringing. That was the last time I had a stupid loud exhaust lol.

I wont lie it gets loud. But its a damn good sounding exhaust. I dont have any issues with it being too loud tho. Most the sound is out the back. When I re-do the intetior im gonna put a lot of sound deadening material in along with mass back carpeting as well

Flows drone bad enough coming all the way out the back. Even worse dumped right under you. I dumped my 44s fit a week and fifth gear was annoying af. I hated it. They sounded good with 3in tips out but I needed louder.

I love the sound of my offroad X-pipe with 40s and my cam but the only thing on a highway at 4,000 and higher RPMs you can't hear yourself think!!!

One thing I didn't like about flow master was that the sound didn't change much through the band like other exhausts do. After 2.5-3k the flows sound the sane till redline.

Bassani or magnaflow are best imo. Also I think x pipe is way better sounding then h pipe. Mustangs come with a hpipe so why put another h pipe on lol

I love my bassani o/r x and catback.

The x just makes it a little more raspy.

Get what you pay for.

But all stainless steel are good. Just paying extra for brand name and sound

---------- Post added at 06:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:02 PM ----------

Still worth it imo

Not all stainless steel is created equal. Put a crap ebay chinamen special 304 stainless pipe next to a Magnaflow stainless pipe and there is a big difference. Also the welds... I once was stupid enough to give a set of OBX chinese headers a shot. The TIG welds were godawful and luckily someone bought them for $100 knowing they would need to redo the welds.

I learned my lesson from ebay specials as well. Ended up having to buy the gt40 crate motor for my 95.

+1 for never buying anything from ebay. I'm about done with those asshats. And the fees they charge now if you sell something... Also if you want to get free stuff just claim the item was never delivered. Ebay will not protect the seller whatsoever.
