Starting problem

Intermittent start, when it doesn't start I don't hear fuel pump. When it starts I hear it. I've replaced ignition switch. Grounds to solenoid are good. Battery is good and clean connections. What could it be?

If its turning over and won't start you may want to check the fuel pump relay.

I double checked and fuel pump works everytime, I just couldn't hear it on the day I posted my question b/c of other noise. So, what else can I check?

Oh, when it doesn't start, I get lights and fuel pump, but no crank.

I'll look into the n/s switch. I have a multimeter, but working this weekend.

This is random, but I had a starting issue a while back that was kind of hard to trace and had some similar symptoms. Lights, fuel pump, turnover, no crank. Checked coil, plugs, injectors, fuel pump, ignition- turns out my MAF ECU was shorted out by an improper ground in my CAI. Good luck!

Thanks, I'm all stock right now, so no cai, but could it be a ground elsewhere?

It's possible! When we were checking for codes we were unable to get a response from the computer so that's how we figured it out. You checked the distributor and coil? Plugs and wires? Have you done any work recently to it? Also, pull the fuse for the cigarette lighter- sometimes that can be an electrical culprit.
