Shifting Issues

Hi there, I have a 1990 Mustang Gt 5.0 Convertible with an Automatic Transmission. When I first got it, it had idling issues that have been fixed I believe by tinkering around with the vacuum lines and upping the throttle a bit to keep the engine from shutting off. But the problems I'm having now are that when I accelerate it shifts perfect but as I begin to slow down it starts to jerk a bit when I'm right at 45. It only does it as it downshifts. So I'm just trying to see what any of y'all think it might be. Any knowledge on the issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had idleing issues with my 94 gt convertible when I first got it to, it was my harmonic balancer. My transmission is automatic and it went shortly after buying it . Anyway my transmission did not jerk at certain speeds it just one day started slipping and just gave out one day. I had it rebuilt with a Fairbanks shift kit and crown Vick interceptor valve body part idk. Anyway if it needs to be rebuilt get a Tranny cooler they save the life of the transmission. I hope yours doesn't need to be rebuilt but I'm sorry I can't help.

My 85 is a manual but in a jeep I had it was having a similar issue, an I got a filter kit for it an changed filter and fluid and it cleared right up. I would try something simple like that before spending too much money. A dirty filter an fluid can cause all kinds of blockage and issues since the fluid is what shifts the gears. I hope it works out for u
