Tach cutting out

My tach doesn't seem to work right..it will stay at 0 and once the motor is winding up it will jump to 4-5000..other times it will max out all the way around..it could be a simple fix but what do you guys think..it has an MSD Distributor..the more I dig into this car the more I realize the last owner had no clue what he was doing

I can't figure out how post a new question but this is kinda on topic, the needle on my stock tach was broken off when I bought my car, so I got a replacement, how do I get my dash cluster out?

Factory gauges are ****. That said, if you can find a chitons, it'll tell you the step by step instructions for taking them out. But I wouldn't trust those gauges at all... I only trust mine to tell me the engine is on... After that, worthless
