Thermostat qusetion for 86 fox

Hear a 160º stat will allow premature engine wear, but also hear it will be fine. 4 months ago I replaced the water pump, 3core rad, new hoses all around, coolant, and 190 stat. It runs at 210-220 no matter what the weather conditions are. Have a summit mechanical gauge for accuracy. Is this temp good for an 86 stock fox? Leaning towards a 160, but iffy. Thx

Make sure you properly burped the system to get all air out. You are SURE you got the correct rotation water pump and it isn't running backwards or anything?

If not you should run a 180 and see what that does. 160 will often not allow the car to get up to proper operating temperature.

Burped correctly and the water pump is a direct replacement from edelbrock. Open the radiator cap and fluid gushes out at temp. Cold and the radiator is full to the cap also. Hot coolant flows through all the hoses. Have heard that some thermostats open a little higher than rated. Don't know if that's true or not.

That's true for sum but it sounds like a coolant sensor on the intake manifold. If Thats broke the car is going to try to keep worming it self up even tho it's all ready up to temp

Easy to check in a pot of boiling water. Should have a turkey thermometer!
