Just bought a 5.0

Well after looking at a few foxbodys
Yesterday I found a 1983 5.0 4spd ( standard ) and picked it up for 400 bucks ..

Now my plans for this car is it make it strictly a track car,
I'm going to gutt the interior , the dash is ugly red so I'm going to paint it ,

Now as far as plans I want to do a 347 stroker setup, with a nitrous ,
I was looking at summit and they have a 347 stroker kit for like 1300, it has forged pistons, I beam forged rods, but cast crank.. Would that be okay?

And would I be able to swap the 4 speed to a T5?
Thanks

Any ideas on how I can make this a 10 sec car, I'd appreciate it.

As far as suspension
I'm going to do
Tubular K member , A arms , Rear control arms, subframe connectors, 90/10 struts , 50/50 shocks, drag springs, other things like battery relocate, Ofcourse light wheels and slicks, upgrade the rear end with 31 spline axles and diff, probably go with 4:10 gears,

Any help would be cool
Anyone ever see someone convert their 4 eye front to a aero front end ?

I've seen the conversion done. Looks pretty straightforward after you get everything you need. That being said, I'd personally rock the 4 eyes. Keep it origional. When was the last time you saw a 4 eye on the road or track?

The 331 has proven better rod to strike ratio and is more reliable and in the same neighborhood of HP/tq #s

Tens probably are not possible on the stock block.
They tend to crack at 500
And most foxbody's with 500 only see low 11s a good driver may see high tens.

331 stroker in a dart block(if gong over 500hp)
Full exhaust
Cobra intake flows good
AFR 205s(I believe is what is recommended)
Air intake
Larger TB
Tune it up.

200 nitrous shot

So take the 302 and make it a 331 stroker?

Any tips on where to get my pistons / rods / crank ?

And should I go fully forged ?

I really want to do a big nitrous shot , and go all motor as well

If I want over 500 hp should I just find a 351 Windsor ? And stroke that out to a 408

Would that hold more power without cracking ?

Go 408 Windsor with heads cam intake and 10:5:1 cr and you should see 500 at the motor

Wtf I thought my **** got deleted by a wild mod. Cross posting much?

Lol, anyway... again...

FROM SCRATCH, which is what you are it is POINTLESS to stick with the 302 based motor. Parts for the 351 based stuff are the same price or only very slightly more expensive, stock 351 roller block will go up to 700hp no problem, your returns out of a 351 are MUCH higher than a 302 and a 351 NA stroker is one of the baddest *** rides you will EVER own.

Also I saw somewhere asking if you should put a forged assy in a 331. ONLY if it is a DART block. Putting a forged assembly in a stock 302 block is about the most idiotic thing you can do for a build and there are WAY too many ppl that do it. If you are building a NA stroker do a 351 based one, otherwise throw a supercharger on the bolt on 302 and call it a day.

What would be a better setup?

408 Stroker with a good shot of nitrous

Or

302 Built and supercharged

There really is no "better" but the block on the 302 alone is going to be $2500 by the time you get done with machining. Not like our modulars where the block is strong as hell and sometimes aluminum too like the NVH in your Mach.

Thanks man ,

And yes we sure do,

I'm just relieved I can leave the Mach 1 alone and just ENJOY it and not worry about fixing it up all the time.
Just cruise and be happy

69 mach 1 1/4 mile pass - YouTube
^That's hot. Any reason he went with the small heads and a G-force over an Astro? 185s are choking that motor and the Astro gearset is stronger espeically behind a 408!

At any event, I now have a semi from watching that video. Its ALWAYS awesome to see an older "brick" of a muscle car going fast as hell and that thing has way more in it.

Damn, nice. A 428 CJ?

I still kind of think I'd be building a "aluminator" Teksid for the Mach but a fast 4 eye fox is awesome. I know the Mach is a DD, that's why you build the motor on the side.

If all else fails
Would forging the stock block
And putting low compression ratio and going turbo.. Be a bad idea ?

And the setup is carb, what would I need to do to tuna efi setup?

Forging the stock 302 block is like putting a really expensive diamond necklace on Rosie O-Donnel. Sure it's a great piece of jewlery but its not going to make Rosie look and better that's for damn sure. Just winds up being a waste of money.

The stock rotating assembly is not the weak point in the 302, the block is. You might as well just get a good running 87-up 5.0 with lower miles, drop it in, throw a supercharger/turbocharger on it and call it a day. The block will let go before the stock internals do.
