Gt 40ps

I recently whent and got a explorer intake (97) from the junkyard. Planning on going back tomorrow and getting the heads and aero star driveshaft. Do I need new headers for the heads or can I use the stock ones? And can I switch the e7te springs over to the gt40p heads? I have a mild cam in it with stock heads so explorer heads should definently fit

Answered your other thread about the EGR and what heads are what. The P heads will likely have problems with the stock headers. Also, the stock headers are trash and should be swapped out ASAP. No better time to do it than now.

For springs... the E7 springs are barely enough for the stock cam, if you have an aftermarket cam in there they should be swapped out regardless. The Explorer springs are even weaker. You also probably don't have the right length pushrods if you just threw a cam in there and went. You have to properly measure pushrod length any time you make a change in the valvetrain.

I thank you for that answer Scotty. You seem to have a lot of knowledge by the way you answer almost thread I look at.. I bought it with the cam so Idk what it is. I'll just get the explorers rebuilt. I'll end up buying bbk shorts anyways.

Thanks for the answer man, I appreciate it.

If you can swing it, get the FRPP ceramic shorties. The set I had looked almost brand new after being on my Cobra for 7 years. They are fully stainless and the ceramic they come with is not crap like the MAC or BBK ceramic coatings. Not to mention if you get P heads the only shorties that are guaranteed to fit are the FRPP ones. The Ps have a different plug angle that interferes with a lot of header brands.

See, full of knowledge. I'll do that for sure. Look up some prices on em! Thanks for the heads up. I like to by the best of the best before I buy crappy stuff that I'll end up replacing sooner or later.

Also make sure they actually are GT40P heads. 97s came with both and the intakes are interchangeable using P heads. If they are P heads they'll have 4 bars on the end of the head and will also have "GTP" stamped on them. GT40s will have 3 bars on the end of the head and will be stamped "GT" instead. I personally prefer the regular GT40s which are identical to Cobra heads. Stock Mustang plug angles on those and internal EGR for the fox guys who want to keep it.

Yeah Im kinda hoping there going to be gt40's. There still at the junkyard cause it's to Damn cold around st.louis to get em. The only v8 explorer/mountaineer I could find so I got the Intake.

Seen your post about gt40s on another thing.. Checking out how to check for proper pushrod length.

Well then make sure you turn the EGR off in the tune. Could issues if the computer thinks the EGR is malfunctioning since you deleted it.
