I'm about to buy a fox body soon, no motor in it but its coming with some good parts. Can someone suggest some setups for me? Tits is my first project car and I don't have a ton of money to spend. Thanks

We'd need to know the purpose for the car. Dd, track, autocross or show? What kind of budget? Was it originally a V8 car?

$1k for a motor is basically gonna get you a rebuilt stock motor...unless you find one running and for sale with some bolt ons. MAF, headers, maybe heads and a cam if you are really lucky. Also, what year car you have is important too as sd cars don't take to mods as well as maf cars, also there may be changes needed depending on the car you buy...I.e. wiring harness. Figure out exactly what you are buying and we can give more guidance from there.

Is it originally an MAF car?

If its gonna be a fuel injected car, and on a budget like that look for an exploder motor with gt40 heads and intake. Swap in a stock Mustang cam and and you've got a decent starting point to build on for a street car. Save up for a Vortech after that, and you'll have a dependable 400 hp fox all day.
