It needs rechromed, but I don't think it was really chrome to begin with. It is black plastic that looked like chrome. It was dingy so I tried cleaning it with progressively harsher soaps and cleaners until the chrome color started wiping off. Turns out it was dingy b/c it was already losing the chrome finish. So I'm wondering if it really needs to be chromed at a shop or if it was just like a spray paint that I can buy and spray or if there is something else that I don't know about yet?
Duplicolor makes something, and you can find it at the parts stores. But I don't know how good the chrome paint looks. My experience is with their other fabric spray paints; and I've never had a problem with those.
My uncle recommended getting the spray, but he suggested staying with Krylon or DuPont...he said they are better than "the cheap stuff". But so far I've only found Krylon in a chrome finish for metals, haven't found anything for plastics.
I used Bull Dog adhesion promoter Bulldog® so that I could use Krylon Chrome spray paint so that the Chrome paint would stick to the plastic on the inside of my tail light assembly and give the tail light bulbs more reflection.
If you're looking for a bright chrome finish spray paint is not the way to go, have the pieces re-chromed so that they look factory fresh.
