Best Gear for my Power Range

Okay as some of you might remember I bought a Foxbody , I'm still in the process of my build. The order of my build is going something like this

- Rear End
- Suspension
- Engine
- Transmission
- Interior
- Exterior

Well so far for my rear end I've bought
31 spline axles ,
03-04 cobra diff
C Clip eliminators
Longer Studs

Next I'm going to order Gears and bearing kit , but I'm trying to get opinion on a good gear.. This is going to be a drag car, 408 stroker , 200 shot
But I still want to play on the highway..

Should I go 410s?
I have them on my 5 speed Mach 1 and love them .. Just don't know if I should go higher

With that kind of power, a taller gear would likely be better. I would say either a 3.73 or 3.55 would be best.

You also redline A LOT higher in the Mach than you will in the fox.

You will have to have a great intake, some awesome heads and a wicked cam to make any sort of power at that rpm with that engine.

We need to know what tire height and transmission you're using before picking a gear size. Otherwise there's nothing to base the recommendation from. Also, how much power are you planning to make all motor with the 408w? How light will your race weight be? If your transmission is a manual, then you're going to want the right gear ratio to finish in 4th at the quarter mile on the 200hit.

I recommend solid roller lifters and a 4barrel throttle body if you want to spin the engine to 8k rpm. Of course the right cylinder heads and camshaft are important, but they're not the only factor to supporting 8k rpm.

Sounds like a killer build though. I wish you the best with it!

You don't need to rev that high with a 408, you can stay in the high 6s and be fine. Even a mild 408 properly done will be doing a ridiculous amount of torque at a pretty low RPM so I would not do 410s. Heck I'd do 3.55s or even 3.31s honestly.

+1 my dads 408 spun on 8.5 inch slicks with 3.25 gears I would probably go with a 3.55s
