Question Engine swap

Hey everyone. I have a 1988 Mustang 5.0 lx if you didnt already know and I finally got a better full time job and with the money I am making, if I save up, I can afford a new engine for an engine swap and to rebuild my t5. I was wondering what engine I should go with though? I would plan on switching from speed density to mass air flow, and I would like to use my current transmission (t5) yet still produce 400 hp and a nice torque around that hp number as well. I would love for the new engine to be able to have a super charger equipped when I have the money for that as well. I would be using it for a daily driver(might buy another car to make it a weekend car but Idk yet because I just love my mustang) and I dont know too much about engines. I have heard about 351 windsors beating nissan gtr's and such and I would love to have the power to put down if theres a challenge but I wouldnt be an idiot about it. Also arent 351 windors carb? I want to keep an efi or fuel injected application. Although like I said, I would like to produce 400 hp and around 400 torque psi. What would be a good engine to go with? I know Latemodelrestoration has an engine that is 340 hp for 6700 with either an e or b cam. I really would want to spend about $4,000 as my budget for the engine itself obviously without applications and my transmission rebuild and different pumps(new smog, ac, p/s, etc.). Any suggestions? My job is luckily only around the corner so I would only be traveling 5 miles for work and 5 back. Let me know and if you can include a youtube video and reasons why. Please dont suggest building one, Its easier to just swap and im looking to get it done in a weekend. Oh and I would store the fox in the garage for winter.
Thanks guys.

351's come in three different types the Cleveland the Windsor and the modified all can be fuel injected with the right aftermarket top end and you'll be able to push over 400 hp on motor without supercharger easily with right tune

You can get a modified which is what I'd go with already set up for fuel injected for around 5700 and you'll get about 500hp on motor...... Prices will vary depending where u get it from and what state u live in..... Due to emissions

I live in Nj. Do you know of any websites or anyone that builds them for around that price? I'm looking to buy in september.. so I can build it in winter and then have it completed by next spring.

Get a 351w (you can pick oney for like $200). Dont settle for a modified, they are not what you want whatsoever. Get the Windsor, put a 408 stroker in it ($2000), a set of half decent heads like Vic Jr. ($1000), a half decent intake to convert to efi if you want (I suggest carbed as its cheaper and easier to work with and if you know what youre doing, just as reliable) and youre looking at a 500 horsepower, 500 pound of torque monster for around $3000. Then buy yourself a built C-4 if you want to drag the car for around $3000, upgrade the rear end to a bigger spline, put some subframe connectors, a roll cage, strip it out to make it lighter, put on some light rims with big slicks and skinnies in the front, put a turbo to it, crank up the boost, run 8's/9's all day long.

Soing the 351w build isnt even close to 6k. If he wants to just buy one, hes eiyher going to have to choose between low horsepower and lower cost or high cost and higher horsepower.

The amount of horsepower and torque that he said he wants (400) is easily done with what I said and if he wanted to go carb id agree with the Windsor but for his price range and what he wants they make modifieds that are already assembled and perfect for what he wants...... Not saying the Windsor isn't the better of the too but for his particular application id go with a pre built modified

I just want to spend no more than 6k on the engine itsself, only because I am going to be spending more money on a 5 lug swap, rear disk brakes, aluminum drive shaft, and transmission parts. I dont assume I could use my t5 with a 351w could I?... I like carb but I've heard as a positive it gets more hp to the ground but it wastes a ton more gas. Like I said i'm not building a track car, just something around 400 hp and tq for street use, and for me to put down the power when i want to, to show off. I mean you dont get a mustang to not have fun lol. I saw a 393 cubic inch 351W for 6700$ that was built in az with 10 compression although its not turn key and I would still need to buy all of the accessories for the belt. On top of that the whole thing is chrome which I dont want because chrome attracts a ton of heat in the engine. which I dont want. I'll eventually be putting a supercharger on there.

Thats way too expensive for what it is. No reason not to go 408w. If you want, id build you a 400 hp windsor for your budget haha!

Anyway I just want to buy something That I guess you can say I could swap in a weekend? I dont even know what I need in order to swap it. Am I going to need anything else? Does anyone know of someone who builds them? An can I use my stock transmission with it?! lol

Yes a t5 will work with a 351, I belueve a new bell house may be required but I could be wrong. You would need new motor mounts I believe. Like I said, if you want me to build one, I can build you a strong running 351w with the power you're looking for that you can just drop in.

Junk yards lol. That or kijiji. 302's are cheap as they are a dime a dozen and arent really that strong.

Go with a dart block hands down. Either build it your self or go through fordstrokers.com. That's what I'll be doing. I would go with a 331, 347, or 363 stroker motor. You will make more power then you'll know what to do with especially if you supercharge/turbo it. I'm shooting for 500whp with a 347 n/a motor. Definitely look into it. And stick with the dart 302 based block. Lighter weight and make it's the same thing that u got now but can handle 1000-1200 hp/to if you want it to. May be a little pricey but it'll be worth it if your going for that big of a build

No throttle body needed. They are carbed engines.
