If i were you i wouldnt chop your mufflers. I would order a bolt on offroad x pipe and whatever mufflers you want. Alot easier than chopping off your mufflers.I just picked up a bolt on OR x pipe for my 94 and kept my flowmaster 40's and its LOUD but sounds good. Doesnt sound like every other flowmaster mustang either.

I bought mine local off craigslist. But if you want brand new and your on a budget you can buy a upr off ebay for around $175-$180.

Don't cut your pipes... also if you are on a mega budget take a look at Summit's house brand of chambered mufflers. They sound pretty similar to flows and their "turbo" mufflers sound similar to Magnaflows. There are clips on youtube of them. At any rate, throwing a set of good mufflers and an OR pipe on there is going to help with your sound wants. I would NOT recommend hacking up your exhaust in the meantime. Patience grasshopper...

An optimal combo for shorties and a Fox is:

FRPP Ceramic shorties (best shorties available by miles)
Your choice of stainless H
Your choice of catback.

I will say again, flowmasters drone like a mofo, you are going to hate life at 2200-2300 rpm on the highway although it will sound good at idle. Also, take a listen on youtube to sound clips of all different combos because there is a BIG difference between being loud and sounding good. Pretty much every swinging dick has flowmasters and an offroad pipe. Dare to be different! Or get the flows if you like them, your car.
