maf problem

Hello i got a 89 gt h/c/i car with 30# injectors 70mm tb. My problem is it idles from 1500-stalling it pops and jerks at any rpm when you dirve it. So its got a new tps and iac and idle has been reset many times tps is set good and computer has been reset many times. So i cleaned the maf with maf cleaner really good no change. untill i unplugged the maf it started right up and idle perfect revs fine no poping idles down slow though. so do any of you guys think i need a new maf. btw the maf is a 75mm 30# injector maf.

Wanted to see what you guys think or how to make sure its that before spending 230$

Thanks

So after you cleaned your MAF Sensor were the wires a Bright Shiny Silver ? Is the wire between the 2 Thicker wires still connected ? ( Similar to the wires in a Light Bulb or Fuse)
I'm not real sure about the Spray MAF Cleaner as I always use Paint Thinner & Rubbing Alcohol to clean mine. But the paint thinner leaves a residue on the wires so you have to use a Q-Tip & Alcohol to clean the residue off afterwards. If the wires are connected & it all looks clean you might want to try wiping it off with a Q-Tip & Alcohol. Can't hurt & could save you some bucks.
$230 seems like a lot for a Sensor....or are you talking about buying the housing & all ?
it sure sounds like it's a MAF Sensor problem though.

I'm thinking it's not clean enough or that wire is burnt or something. I'm 99 % sure that's your problem. You may have to buy a new one if it doesn't clean up. I'd go buy a small bottle of paint thinner @ Walmart for $2.50 & clean it that way before I invested in a New MAF. Just fill up some kind of small cap with thinner & let the wires soak over night in it. Paint Thinner wont melt plastic so no worries. Next day clean it off gently with Alcohol on a Q-Tip. Then put it in & try it out. If it still acts up...Then Replace it. I'm pretty sure it should clean up though as mine was real bad & looked liked new after I did this.

If you were only "told it was tuned" with no receipt then I would assume it wasn't if I were you. Not to mention nobody with a tune is going to put a #30 MAF in there. Or if you did that would be why it is idling crappy. If it really was tuned then the tuner would have calibrated the fuel tables in the computer for whatever MAF was in there.

Need more details but if its an HCI car and not performing well a bad or stock tune is usually the first culprit.

doesn't mean it was tuned properly. Dude could have had some mail order tune on there and like I said if you put in a different MAF after the fact tuned for #30s then that could have screwed it all up.
