Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter Question

Hey guys, A guy down the street from me is selling a Steeda Shifter & not sure if it will fit my car as I can't find the numbers that are on the shifter on the Steeda website.
Only thing I found out is it fits a 99 GT. I'm not sure what Tranny a 99 has.
Anyone know ???
The Numbers on the back of the shifter are 997-0158. Anyone know what Trans this fits ???
All the Steeda Shifters I found on-line start out with 553-____. Last 4 numbers change.
Hate to pass the shifter up for $75 but if it wont fit my 94 GT it wont do me much good.
Scotty ??? Almost Stock ??? Anyone ???

Well Steeda advertises their shifter to fit 79-04 T-5 and T-45. So if it came out of a 99 GT, then it should fit your 94 GT. The same trans was in both years. The trans did not change until mid 2001 model when Ford went to the Tremec 3650. Unless the owner of the shifter had did a tranny swap and that shifter is for altogether different set-up, but if not and the stock tranny was in the car when he removed the shifter, then you are all good.

Here is the shifter that you are looking at to buy, it will not fit your 94 GT. Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter w/ Handle - TR-3650 TR-3650 (01 Cobra; Late 01-04 GT, Mach 1) . I went on American Muscle website and happen to enlarge every Steeda shifter till I was able to match the P/N you posted with what is engraved on the base underside. Take a look at the link I posted and click on the pics and enlarge the one pic with the base underside showing, it has that P/N.

Steeda Mustang Tri-Ax for TR-3650 555-7363 (01 Cobra; Late 01-04 GT, Mach 1) - Free Shipping

The Google also confirms this from a few classified ads that popped up when I just plugged in the part number. Also I know this because I had to find a 3650 Tri-Ax when I swapped from a T-45 to a 3650. The part number you will want on the Tri-Ax is 997-0101 which is for any T-5 or T-45. If the shifter you were looking at is out of a 99GT that means that the guy had his trans swapped at some point because they did not start showing up till 01. For 99-04, the T-45s and 3650s from those years are all direct swaps with each other.

What is the best tranny for my 94 5.0 ? Are the 3650 & T-45 interchangeable for my car ?
I'm pretty sure I have a T-5 now. Finishing my motor this weekend so thinking about what I should do tranny wise.

The 3650 came mounted to a 4.6 motor. Your 94 had a 5.0, the bolt patterns are completly different. You'll need a different bellhousing to start with. I supplied a link to the bell housing adapter at the bottom of my remarks. The 3650 is longer than the T5 so you'll need to check the shifter position first. Secondly...If I'm not mistaken, your 94 has a mechanical speedmeter and the 3650 is electronic only. You'll need a work around of sorts to run the speedo. The output shaft on the 3650 has 31 splines where the T5 had 28 so you'll need a different slip yoke and quite possibly, a different front u-joint, not to mention a driveshaft to fit. The crossmember is completely different, so you'll need to tackle that issue as well.

If it me, I would just stick with a T-5 or a TKO.

If you have a 94/95 and want a strong as ****, light and buttery shifting transmission, get ahold of Tony at Astroperformance.com - Your Manual Drivetrain Specialist and pick up one of his A5s. They aren't cheap but they are the best.

As for the T-45 and 3650 bolting to a pushrod. It can be done. Before Keisler went out of business, they were making bellhousing delete adapters for the T-45 that really weren't THAT expensive and allowed ppl to run any bellhousing with the TKO bolt pattern. This means that if you got ahold of one you could run the T-45 with practically any engine. The 3650 adapter was already linked, you also need a 05-10 input shaft to make that work with a pushrod. Its not super cheap either and really the only benefit to adapting a T45 or 3650 to a pushrod in lieu of an Astro is to retain the steep 3.37(8) first gear vs a 2.66, 2.95 or 2.97 1st gear that almost all the "aftermarket" gearsets run.

There's nothing wrong with the Trans. right now....Just want to make it better.

If there is nothing wrong with it now then leave it alone. Get it rebuilt if it blows but I don't think you are running the power level to blow it honestly. Not unless you miss 3rd at WOT anyway.
