Rear ends....

Lookin to upgrade the rear end on my 89. Likes to one leg most of the time. Sometimes will lock both up. What have you guys done or installed to fix that problem? Was thinking of trying to rebuild with clutch kit, or just replace whole thing with a posi. I want both wheels spinning, any info appreciated.

Probably have to rebuild it. It will come down to budget. The stock track lok if built correctly with the cf disks is good for a little bolt on car now if you have a little more coin to spend a true trac is nice.

Yeah I was looking at rebuild kits with the carbon fiber disk. But wasn't sure if that was gonna give me what I was looking for. I like swinging donuts, iunno if you do that but it only likes slidin to the left. If you try swinging to the right it puts it all on the one wheel and just spins and wants to straighten out. I wanna be able to swing both ways. That's why I was thinking just replace the whole thing. But don't really wanna spend that type of money right now.

"I wanna swing both ways" lmao lol...sorry had too....yes a true Trac is nice if you have $$$ laying around but I just replaced my diff fluid and I can light both up going left or right now! Try it before you spend hella money.
Also if you dump the clutch at a higher rpm you'll get both no matter what.

Haha naw you can rev it as high as you want. Going right it will just spin the right. Think I'm gonna try the rebuild kit. Just doing a burnout though at a higher rpm it will spin both but also will kicks in and out. It isn't consistent.

If your going rebuild, just purchase the gears you would want in it to begin with. No point in spending extra money down the road when your not happy with your stock gears

I recommend an Eaton locker. Never fails both wheels all the time.

Yeah I drive mine daily. Just like to have a little fun too. I ordered the kit with the carbon fiber disks to start with, see if that gets me what I'm looking for. Don't wanna mess with the gearing right now, doing a lot of upgrading to make It more dependable. Just blew a head gasket yesterday so it's going in this weekend. When I got it, it was all original. I drive a little harder then previous owner. So I'm kind of just replacing factory parts as I go. I started another thread about this but maybe one of you have some info. Mines an 89 high output. When I replace head gaskets I'm gonna put heads and intake from a 90 gt. Will my lifters work for it or will I need the ones from the gt motor? And is there anything else I will need to get from the gt to go on mine. Throttle body, exhaust manifolds, egr. Etc. since I got it I've installed a 3G alternator, dual electric fans, 4 row alum radiator, cold air intake, water pump, 68degree thermostat, tranny rebuild, and ignition switch. That's pretty much everything I've gone through already. Any info or recommendations appreciated.
