Intake and head swap.

I have a 89 high output and head gasket just went. My buddy has a motor out of a gt, so I was gonna put the heads and upper and lower intake on it while it's pulled apart. Am I gonna need the lifters from the gt or should they be the same? Was also wondering if the throttle body is the same size as well, is there anything else I should be aware with? Any info is appreciated. Cars going to the shop this weekend

What year is the buddies GT? If it is the same generation foxbody, then all of it is the same. 87-88 was speed density, 89-93 was mass air, other than that it was basically the same.

I'm pretty sure it's a 90. Performance wise what all is the difference between the ho and the gt motors? From what I understand the ho just has a Windsor cam?

I did not see that you wrote HO on your question.

Here is the breakdown of the model years

HO also means 351W firing order.

1982 GT has a 5.0 HO with flat tappet cam, 2 barrel carb, single exhaust and was rated at 157hp.

1983-1984 GT has a 5.0 HO with flat tappet cam, 4 barrel carb, single exhaust and was rated at 175hp.

1985 GT has a 5.0 HO with roller cam, 4 barrel carb, two-into-one-into-two exhaust and was rated at 210hp.

1986 GT has 5.0 HO with roller cam, speed density SEFI, true dual exhaust and was rated at 200hp.

1987-1988 GT has 5.0 HO with roller cam, speed density SEFI, true dual exhaust and was rated at 225hp.

1989-1992 has 5.0 HO with roller cam, mass air SEFI, true dual exhaust and was rated at 225hp.

1993 HO has all the same as 1990-1992 except hypereutectic pistons and was re-rated at 205hp.

1993 Cobra does not say HO anywhere and uses a different roller cam, mass air SEFI, true dual exhaust, GT-40 heads, Cobra intake, larger throttle body, larger mass air meter, and was rated at 235hp.

So the heads and intake from a 90gt are the same as the 89 ho I have?

If I remember correctly this is the difference,

E7TE heads
cam
forged pistons with reliefs
60mm throttle body
stock 19 lb/hr fuel injectors
upper intake
factory unequal-length headers
HO/351W firing order

What are the differences between the high output and gt motors though for 89-93, are they the same. That didn't compare a ho to a gt.

That's what I was asking, wasn't sure if I was reading it wrong or not. Sorry about that. Well then there's no point in swapping the heads and intake then! Mine are good I was just under the impression gt motors had bigger intakes and heads. Thanks bud

All 5.0s that came in the Mustang from 87-93 are identical minus the air intake assemblies in 87 and 88 where they were speed density instead of mass air (except 88 Cali cars that got MAF a year early). And it is very easy/cheap to convert a SD car to MAF.

What you are doing is just swapping the exact same parts for 0 performance gain. I'd just replace the headgasket and slap what you have back on or upgrade to a set of heads/cam/intake that actually flow worth a damn while its all off.

edit: Also, sometime in late 1992, the pistons went from forged to hypers but that doesn't effect anything.

Yeah the 93 model not only got the hypers, but the HP rating went down to 205 from 225.

Yeah that's arbitrary Ford numbering, nothing changed. Honestly it was probably so when they rated the 94 Mustang at 215hp it looked like it went up 10hp.
