After market tachometer question

Hey guys I bought a iEquus 5" tach, it has two options on how to install the signal wire, first is a direct wire to the coil then another is a pulse clamp that connects to the coil plug wire. My fox is mostly stock but I was thinking will i Be able to use a direct wire on a stock coil? or will I have to use the pulse clamp? And are they less accurate?
