Question Buying a t5

Hey everyone I have a 1988 mustang gt. Original 5 speed. Pretty much my situation is that my second gear grinds and I'm pretty sure the synchro is going bad. It's easier for me to do a direct transmission swap rather than a rebuild at the moment due to the lack of time and since this is my daily driver for now. I saw a local craigslist ad for a guy who is selling a t-5 here in nj for $400. Only issue is that it's not in the car. When I go look at it, is there any way to check and make sure that it's not a piece and that it's in "great" condition and "needs nothing" like he said?

Thanks!

Buying one out of the car is a complete crapshoot. You can get a brand new one for around $700 shipped to your door. I'd go that route.

Where can I get a new one for $700?! A world class t-5? The one the guy is selling is out of a 91 and he's giving a new clutch and flywheel with it for $400. There's absolutely no way to check it out of the car.

Check your PMs. They are rebuilt so they'll all be "WC" spec.
