1995 5.0 need help

my dad recently bought a 1995 5.0 but when you turn it on it revs up really high idk what the problem is, does anyone know why it revs up really high when you start it

Clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner and also clean the IAC sensor (idle air control)

Also get a tune up new wires spark plugs new oil and all that if not already done and could it possibly be bad timing?

If this is a new purchase then a full tune up is in order.


Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, oil change, clean the maf, base idle reset, clean the iac, pcv valve and metal screen, run your codes, check and clean the grounds. Spend a day going through her and admiring her from all angles.


After you do all that then it will be easier to track down the culprit. It could be a vacuum leak.

I think you were right the 1st time Smurf...The MAF & IAC Sensors need cleaned.
I can't believe how much of a big deal those 2 sensors are....but they are !!!

I would say there could also be an intake leak somewhere. If the above doesn't fix anything you might look into that.
