89 question

On cold start my car will idle just fine for about 2 minutes and then slowly cut off and now it is stalling out a lot I was thinking the fuel pump isnt working properly and giving the fuel lines enough gas it sounds like its suffering for gas is it the pump or something else I have a 1989 5.0 thank you.

What makes you think the pump is weak?

What is your fuel pressure?

What is your pressure with the vacuum line pulled?

Did you ever run your codes?

What leads you to believe that? Have you checked your fuel pressure at the rail? Did you ever get that dyno tune since you don't have a stock cam?

I've been telling him that for literally months. He keeps asking the same question in a different way. "How can I get my car to run right?"

Get a tune.

The crazy thing is, the myth that the fox computers are some crazy magic processors that never need to be tuned is still really prevalent. They can do bolt ons much better than the 94/95 computers... but once you take out the factory cam all bets are off.

Bro trust me when I say I don't have $600 to just drop either but if u add up the $$ for all your problems you'll probably come close if not over $600. Seeing as the tune is what's the root of your problem, IMO that should be first. You could end up replacing parts that don't even need replacing. No need to get upset we are here to help

Well as for ur post, I think your fuel pump could play a part in that..honestly I'm not 100% sure, check your vacuum hoses maybe, sounds like its not pumping fuel to keep it running so just work your way from your fuel pump on up. I'm EFI I haven't had to work on your kind of setup for awhile and when I did I was still learning it but that's the best I've got for u. Try googling your problem or YouTube it to kinda get an idea of wat the problem is in case no one here can identify the prob

If you ain't got money for a tune then you better be handy and learn this car.
Learn about checking small things out yourself like fuel pressure, timing, checking for codes, checking for vacuum leaks......ect.

Next time you post back it should sound like this.....

Pulled my codes and all I got was an 11.
My fuel pressure is 40 an 32.
All vacuum hoses look good and checked for leaks 4 times.
Tune up was done recently and plugs look great.

Sorry but random questions get vague answers.

IMO kyle , if your car is the only one you got , you should have not play with it because if your screwing something you gonna have to walk . If its your second car then store it and save up money for a tune and you will see its worth it !

Also Kyle I don't wanna sound like I am trying to beat you down but if you were to ask a specific question it is much easier to try to suggest something. I understand it is frustrating to try finding little problems but you gotta start small and simple. That way you can go through and look for things that are free and easy to diagnose ( a little time consuming). Checking for vacuum leaks is a time consuming thing but with these cars due to their age hoses rot out, a bad egr stuck can also be a vacuum leak, simple components are not intended to last a lifetime.

So after you have spent a whole day just checking things and eliminating the obvious and the problem still persists then it will be much easier to get a professional to help you out and cheaper as you have done a lot of the simple leg work.

My Mustang had a problem when cold that sounds a lot like yours. It would start fine, go to high idle for a short while, then would idle down till it stalled. Would have to keep it running with my foot. If it was warmed up and I put it in gear ( AOD ) it would try to die. The issue was fixed when I put a new Idle Air Control Motor. This bolts to the throttle body. Hope this helps.... Paul
