SMOG pump bypass as bearings are bad in pulley

Hello

I think the bearings in the smog pump are going bad. I have a 91 gt 5.0. Can I leave the pump in place and just use a 84.5 belt to bypass the smog pump. If I leave the pump in place and just not connected to the belt will this work or will I have to go further like I have read and block behind the head with a plug. If the pulley gets in the way of the new route I can try to remove the pulley if that is possible.

I have no problem leaving it in and connected minus the belt if that will work.

Thanks

I had the same issue. I left the pump in place and used a shorter belt and it worked fine.

Yeah it will work the way you're gonna do it.If you leave the hoses and tab/tad valves in place, you won't need to remove the pipe from the heads. The beginning part of that pipe has a one way check valve on it to prevent gases from flowing towards the smog pump.If you do remove all the hoses and tad/tab valves, you can leave the pipe on the heads but find some type of cap that you can place over the check valve just in case gases try to escape from it.I would remove the pulley from the smog pump too.
