Clutch to use with supercharger

What clutch would I need for my supercharged application? People throw supercharger kits on their cars all the time with stock everything but fuel system and run fine but iv seen people blow clutches with supercharged 302's on like 1-2 passes

Id say stage 1 would be adequate, stage 2 would be safe with room to grow

"Stage" literally means nothing dude, its a marketing thing for ppl who are too lazy to read the actual clutch specs and ricers. You go buy the manufacturer's torque rating.

AM has the manufacturer's ratings on their clutches right in the item description. The Exedy Mach 400 is rated at 438ft lbs at the flywheel, the McCleods are a little more.

You can always look into ceramic clutches too but those have a different feel to them and not everyone likes them.

UPR cable is garbage and they are flat out lying about the HP capability of that clutch. Also the real "King Cobra" is discontinued so that is whatever they are sourcing for a 10.5 organic clutch.

Get the Exedy Mach 400, get an OEM pilot and OEM TOB and get the Max Motorsports quadrant/firewall/cable kit.

So you think that clutch would be good for a supercharged H/C/I 302?

The Exedy Mach 400? It will be right on the edge. So will the T-5Z you installed though. The Z spec is a little stronger but the stock third gear will still be the "glass jaw" you'll need to worry about.

Yeah now I'm more looking to the exedy 500. How's come so many people run the cars mostly stock and still able to run it? Just no hard launches?

That's a ceramic clutch and will behave differently than an organic. More potential chatter and much quicker engagement. Some ppl like it some don't.

Like I said the Mach 400 should be fine unless you plan to launch it on slicks or drag radials at the track which I would not do without upgrading the trans to something stronger anyway. Street tires it will be fine.

Plus if you want to stay with easy drivability organic is the way to go.
