Not holding a charge

Hi ,

I have a 91gt and have done a lot of work to it mechanically but now iam running into the electronic part of things and my car is not holding a charge I replaced the alternator and battery and voltage regulator not sure if iam over looking something. battery light has not gone out on the dash panel ,...any ideas ? Thanks

One thing I would check is the fusible links in the alternator wiring harness.The link below is a wiring diagram showing their location.I would also verify battery voltage and charging system function with a multimeter.The battery should read 12.6volts,fully charged with the engine off.It should read 13.5-14.7 volts with the engine running and revved to 2000rpm.The second link below describes how to test the charging system.I could be wrong but this is how I think the charge indicated light works.When you turn the key on the alternator isn't producing power so the light comes on.Once the engine is running,the alternator is now producing power so the light goes out.If the light is on,that means the alternator isn't putting out enough voltage or too much voltage.
