1995 GTS problems

I bought a 1995 GTS, the valve covers were leaking so I took the plenum off to get to them, replaced the valve cover gaskets and the plenum gasket. In the process I broke the tube to the egr, I saw on another thread you can place a penny in the nut on the manifold to block that off and delete the EGR with a plate, I have a plate ordered but in the meantime I took another penny and put on the nut on the bottom of the EGR valve. I also noticed there were 3 vacuum lines a red, green and another one. I put the green one on the EGR, the red one to the place on the trottle body next to the fpr, the other one wasnt hooked to anything to start with, so I just plugged it. It starts fine but seems like it idles a little rough and after a little bit I start to get what seems like a pop in the exhuast. Any ideas?

Yeah all those vac lines need to be hooked up. One should go to the AFPR, one should go to the vac on the TB and one on the EGR itself. There is a 4th one IIRC... its been awhile. And since you mentioned nothing about a tune... the car will not run properly if you just cap the EGR port as the computer will be looking for that.

TBTH... I always ran into issues with the EGR removed with 94/95 cars even with a tune. What you can do is get a piece of high temp heater hose/worm clamps from home depot or wherever and use it to patch the broken part of the tube. Works perfectly. And then just run the EGR. There are plenty of headers that come with the EGR bung on them including longtubes and removing the EGR does nothing for you except engine bay cleanup.

I finally figured it out. I didnt get to drive the car much when I bought it because it wasnt tagged and didnt have headlights... I dont know how the car was running at all, all the plug wires were plugged into the wrong place on the distributor. Checked them with my haynes maual and now it runs great, surprising with the egr blocked off but it does idles smooth and runs great! Thanks for the info

You may have issues with the EGR blocked and no tune in the future, especially once its warmed up for awhile but maybe not. Glad to hear you figured it out, its usually something stupid like that.
