My sister had a 98, I wanted to do some things with it an the t5 was the reason I forgot about it. It's been years ago but I know they changed in 94. Look at this link... http://www.pro-forceperformance.com/t-5_interchange.htm

All Mustangs till 05 had cable clutches unless someone installed an aftermarket unit. Also unless it was a V6 it didn't have a T5.

Okay found a 89 lx 5.0 and for a pretty good price .. The cons I noticed . It's kinda hard to get into first gear and reverse kicks out sometimes ? On the engine the owner said there is vac leaks he sais he fixed some big there are some left ? Noticed when driving when you punch it in first and second it feels like it's sucking to much air putting a drag it feels like .. And how can you tell if it's an original motor ? I have pics to show ? But other than that I checked the underside all over the body and fenders and car is really straight ?

I'm not trying to be an ***... but you really should make friends with someone who knows these cars before you buy a fox that needs work. That one you are describing right now sounds like a money pit.

Transmission is likely going to have to be rebuilt as far as the gear issues. It will have to come out of the car at a very minimum for clutch work.

Well Scotty considering I want it to be a build project and knowing that I'm gonna spend money that does t bother me .. And the car price as of now after talking with the guy stands at 2500$ ? That's not a bad price to start out with is it not ?

If the frame is straight and no rust... I'd try to get it closer to $1500 if the motor and trans are messed up.

Yeah the frame is really straight and there is no rust underneath or on body the only place with rust and it's just surface rust in right in front of the windshield where the panels are .. And in the engine if I where to take it out and inspect it can't I just bore it out ? Or is that bad to do ?

I wish it was that easy ... All in all if the tranny and motor turn out to be a peace of .... Then we can start from scratch . I'm mainly just looking how the frame and body is .

Then find a clean 4 banger some old person drove for 25 years and garaged and is low miles. I just saw one near me with a blown trans and mint condition (and blue interior bleh) sell for $1100 near me. 40k miles and the exterior was a solid 9/10.

The mods are:

New king cobra clutch
B&m short throw shifter
Aluminum drive shaft

Front kyb struts with coilovers
Rear Kyb shocks
Rear lowering springs

How is it geared in the *** end? I have a 90 it's 3:73 and I think it would do 12mpg. But still it's all how you act in it. My coyote has seen 8mpg often.

The only thing I will say is that good deals on clean foxes do not last this long. Either something is up or he is asking too much.

Well it just sold i was going to go look at it today and someone came and bought it 2 hours before i was. Since im still looking for a car i was curious of which car would be faster and better.

A fox with a cold air intake, 3.73 gears, new clutch, and lowered.

Or a 1990 305 camaro with a hurst short shifter, new clutch, cat back, new injectors, spark plugs, spark plug wires.

Look for a good solid Foxbody GT version with Manual Transmission. Most LX versions had automatic transmissions. The manual trans equipped models appreciate much better. Also, try to find a factory T-Top of Sunroof version. Although, not a rare option, but not may still exist with a good fit.

If you want a fox you find the cleanest fox you can. Period.

Very often this is a 4 banger automatic in some old person's garage that has like 70k miles on it and has been driven 3 times a week for 25 years to the Supermarket, Bingo and maybe Church.

And who the hell cares if its an auto 4 banger? Foxes are so easy to work on and so swappable it isn't even funny. I'll take a very clean 4 banger auto with a red or blue interior and no rust and decent paint over some "clean" 5.0 that has been through who the hell knows what any day.

So every foxbody i want to get sells before i could go get it which i get because they are all so nice. I am looking at another one that hasnt been updated on craigslist but i have talked to the guy and he isnt going to update it so i actually have time to go look at it. The only problem is he knows nothing about it, he told me the only thing he knows that the owner before him which was a mechanic said that the engine is bigger than a 5.0, has a full exhaust from the headers back and has a short shifter. Thats not to much to go off of and im worried about it.

I'm selling a red ford fox body mustang 5.0 for 8000$ firm there's a rebuilt custom engine In it with only 17,000 km.on the original odometer there's like 142,000 km.400hp at the wheels.-e303 cam ported and polished heads, after market headers upgraded injectors straight dual exhaust cat and resonator delete flow master mufflers. I have the original seats as we'll
-no accident
-hatchback
-5speed

This is what the add sais but when i ask him questions he doesnt mention anything about those things that have been done to the car. I saw pictures of the outside and it looks really nice and ive seen the engine and interior at local car meets and its a really nice car just alot of unknowns. Do you guys think it would be worth it?

$8,000 is a bit tough.....specially if the guy doesn't know anything about the car. All that stuff you can't see that is "supposedly" done to the car is also tough to validate without receipts. And even with receipts take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah well it is 7300 now and i can definatly talk him down because of all the unknowns. I was just thinking the only way to tell if it does have anything is by hearing it idle to see if it actually does have a cam, then test driving it and putting it to the floor to see how fast it really is and then putting it on a dyno because if it is bigger than a 5.0 alot of people usually do 306 builds and it should have more than 320rwhp if its done right

A vacuum leak will sound like a cam.

The only way he will let you slap it on a dyno is after you have paid him and it's your to beat and romp on.

Thirdly a 306 is just a bored out freshened 302. It can be a stock rebuild meaning it has 225 hp to the crank or it can be a high end rebuild with high compression pistons, lightweight rods, tight tolerances and all types of internal tricks to squeeze more hp. All of this will be an unknown unless you open the motor. Them's the breaks.
