3.73 gears

Hi everyone, I want to buy a different gear for my 94 gt. I have the 8.8 rear end and I would like to get the 3.73 gear, lots on eBay that say it comes out of a explorer with 11x41 tooth count..... Is that good for my car? Is there a tooth count I should look for? Let me know thanks..

Call your parts guy at the dealer, and have him check compatible part numbers. I don't know if anyone here has made the swap your are talking about......I would be surprised if what you describe was able to be swapped.

Don't buy used gears. Spend the little extra for new Ford Racing gears

Buy a rear end from a 99-04 rear end, it's 1.5 inches wider and comes stock with 3.27 gears... Pretty cheap too, i paid about 400$ for a complete rear end caliper to caliper with 50k miles on it.

This car is a pain in my ***

Ford Motorsport gears are the best gears to run,in my opinion. They're also good because backlash usually stays identical to the stock gears,so adjustments normally aren't needed. Its weird for somebody to list a gearset using tooth count instead of just stating the ratio, but a 11/41 is definitely a 3.73 That's just one way of calculating which ratio you have,if the rearend cover tag(which lists ratio)has been removed. You simply divide the ring gear tooth count by the pinion gear tooth count to give you the gear ratio. The link shown below is the junkyard HP thread from the Corral forum. It lists rear ends and gears that are compatible with the Foxbody which came equipped in vehicles other than the Mustang.

Don't buy used gears and then I'd say just get 4.10s. If you are worried about a few hundred RPM on the highway then get a Prius.
