Came out like a bandit. Stock shortblock, E cam, gt40 heads, unknown roller rockers, gt40 intakes. All accessories, longtubes, shocks and springs. Etc. $600. He's supposed to find the al9 ecu he was running as well. Maf and injectors are upgraded and matched. Plus the steering rack because it was sitting there.

About to list several items for sale to recoup some costs. These heads are going on the shortblock I have at the machine shop.

Current investment $890.

I was about to say, those blue ones are almost always going to be the FRPP 1.72 rockers. If they were the gold ones they'd be the 1.7 Crane Cobra rockers. With the E cam there should not be any PTV issues but you should measure pushrod length just to make sure this guy didn't just throw in the stock pushrods or guessed at it.

I'd still take those heads in for a valvejob and have the springs checked. If they are Explorer springs you will get valve float at like 5k RPM... if they are the Mustang ones they might be ok but probably will need replaced. The TFS springs are a real good cheap spring to replace them with if they need it.

They'll get a good once over. Think I have that shortblock and the factory longblock sold

Good deal. I'd talk to your guy about grinding the EGR bumps down while he goes through them. Its extremely simple, should not take much time at all and it helps out on the exhaust side a bit. Or just leave them... either way.

I'd run that with the E cam, throw a 150 shot at it with some suspension and weight reduction and that's 12's on motor all day and 11s on the sauce for CHEAP while sounding and looking great.

Have the donor motor torn down. It's been sitting for a bit (spider webs and spiders). Was still a touch of oil in it.

Some genious must have torn up one of the fr rockers because there's one crane 1.6. Random.

Heads should clean up fine and I have a spare harness to clean up now.

Just took the cam out. Not an E cam.

Erson RH-290-1. Has a few Knicks. Can't find alot of info on these cams. Might be calling in a favor at comp afterall

You can always find a good used letter cam or TFS1 for $100. The B cam with 1.72s and GT40s is a really good proven "old school" setup that makes great bottom end and gets pretty much everything out of the GT40s that can be gotten. Sounds good too.

I'm hitting up the local 2nd hand shop tomorrow. They had a few sbf cams last time I was in there.

Heads are at machine shop. Now just waiting on them.

Latest project is redoing motor harness. Stripping it down to wires and relooming and wrapping. Figure if it's going to take a while I might as well do it right.

Factory motor will come out in a few weeks. Have a few side jobs coming up I'll need to move the car for

Just wanted to update. Still waiting on machine work to be completed. Wiring harness for motor is ready. Cleaned up the longtubes last week, just need to get some paint on them.

Nice, take pics when its all in. Hopefully you had better luck with cleaning up used headers than I did. I'm just going to send my shorties out to get redone and baked vs trying it again myself lol.

You going to toss a shot of nitrous onto this thing for track days or just leave it around 275whp NA and roll?

Still waiting on machine shop to finish. Working on selling extra parts to clear some space. Picked up a new oil pump last week. Still undecided on cam.

Custom cam is a good way to go.

Also open up the oil pump and make sure it is nice and clean inside. Or if you are kinda crazy like me debur all the sharp edges.

Oil pump is sitting in a box. I'll open it up and have a look.

Some 40 years ago I used to blueprint my own oil pumps along with matching the port in the block to the port in the oil pump...then rather than spend hours polishing, deburring and flattening the gears to give more clearance I started buying them from......Ford 302 5.0 - Precision Oil Pumps, used them on all my race engines and a few street motors.
This along with priority oiling to the crank and timing gear/distributor gear made a huge difference in longevity of the race motors.....case in point....one 408 lasting for almost 9 race seasons....my 3 cents.

Gotta agree. Prep is the most important part.

I've stopped in every few weeks. Busy season for this shop normally starts in March. They said it started in November this time and hasn't let up.

But...they are a world class engine shop who have setups shipped to them often. Apparently going forward if you don't want a full build ($2500 min) they don't want your business.

Yay, finally called about my motor.

Bad news: needs boring, crank needs machining and heads need springs.

Good news: i can finally yank the factory motor out and start cleaning up wiring and paint

Woohoo! Time to start assembling stuff. Ended up going .030 over and bought cheap pistons to fill the holes. Have to inventory but I should have everything now.

Yanking factory motor out this morning with trans. Will end up going through trans just to ease my mind.

Looks like I may be repainting the engine bay while it's empty. A few too many scratches and scars for my liking

Those factory 5.0 from back in the day sure did have a lot going on under the hood.

No kidding. Coyote is stuffed in a fox. Has room to spare in a s550.

Going to start motor assembly this week if I can find any time.

Got the crank and cam set last night. Crank play is within spec. Hoping to stuff some pistons tonight and get the shortblock finished up.

Slowly but surely. I started with a simple HCI and it turned into a stroker build and 2 years later.

Got the timing set in place before 60mph winds and rain. 100+° in the garage and no airflow so pistons are put back on hold.
