If you still have stock springs, be very careful. The spring has alot of stored energy in it and can come flying out causing injury if careful steps arent taken. If the car has lowering springs instead, you dont need a spring compressor because theyre easy to remove & install. You can buy a special spring compressor that feeds up through the center of the spring, but I dont know if you can rent this type of compressor or not & its expensive.Autozone rents the type that installs on the outside of the spring & it just gets in the way.The Ford tool is part #D78P-5310-A.
I do know a couple of guys that used a heavy duty ratchet strap & safely removed & installed the stock springs. They said they had to cut the strap off when they were done, but Im not sure why.
Get the front of the car high enough off the ground so the control arm can swing freely through its entire range of travel. If it hits the ground,it may not drop far enough to get the spring out.Spray alot of wd40 on the control arm bolts.Disconnect the swaybar endlink & outer tie rod & remove the strut(so it wont be in the way) Remove the brake caliper.Use a chain or strap on the spring to keep it from flying out.Keep a jack under the control arm & lower it slowly to relieve the compression.Once most/all of the compression is relieved, use a long piece of pipe, etc to reach in and nudge the bottom of the spring out of the control arm.

If youre gonna use the ratchet strap method, bolt the control arm in place, put a jack under the front of the control arm,set the spring into the spring pocket, install the ratchet strap & begin tightening it down.Once the spring is compressed enough, jack the control arm up until the spring is seated in the upper pocket.
BTW- when you set the spring in the control arm, youll see 2 small holes in the spring pocket. The spring pigtail(very end of the bottom coil)needs to be sitting between those holes. It should cover one hole but not the other.

First time it should take you maybe less than 2 hours to do it all.

When you get down there it will be a good time to see what else you need. I am sure there will be some other things that will arise.
