clutch lever boot

Having difficult time finding a clutch lever boot for a 94 Cobra T5 transmission. Tried the local transmission repair shops, NAPA, Checker, Autozone, internet (including Ebay), and a Ford dealership that handles Ford racing supplies. It is a no go. Seems the part is a "Ford" only item. Can find places other than Ford that can supply this part for T5's 86-93 and 96-04. Seems odd that 94 and 95 are not available. Sent $42 to Bob's Ford in Portland, OR, but bet it will be wrong (haven't received it as yet).

Re: clutch lever boot

OK -- finally received the boot ordered from Bob's Fords after waiting a month. Of course wrong part. Back to square one. Got under car and found out that the bell housing is Ford part number 6392-R58 (unique clutch housing required for Tremec 5-speed transmission used in the 1994-94 Mustang Cobra models with 351W. Will also fit 289/302/352C engines). Also, found out that the part is not a boot but a "shield". A boot is considered to be made of rubber and a shield is metal. Anyway, the latest information is the part number is F422-7513-A. The local Ford dealership does not have the part so plan to call Ford Racing Performance Parts technical assistance techline 1-800-FORD788.

Re: clutch lever boot

I hope you find what you're looking for....in general, the 94-95's are the unwanted children.....In general, it's more difficult to find parts for them compared to other years

Re: clutch lever boot

there is a little black rubber thing that sits right ontop of the shifter that keeps crap out and noise, then the fake leather (or real probably in the cobras) with the bezel made into it. The first part is square and gold around the sides and the second is the interior part.

by your description it seems you want the under part, any mustang 94-98 with a manual should work as a donor car for that part..

Re: clutch lever boot

Apparently not clear about the part that is needed. This item covers the 2 X 3 inch opening on the bell housing where the clutch lever is located. The clutch lever shield protects the clutch parts from dust, dirt, mud, water, etc., from getting inside the clutch housing. The Ford part given earlier should be F4ZZ-7513-A. Thank you all for your responses to my problem.

Correct, the clutch shield covers the 3X2 inch hole in the bellhousing. It covers the clutch lever and part of the clutch cable up to the front of the bellhousing where it attaches to the engine. The metal shield is held to the outside of the bellhousing by one bolt.

Re: clutch lever boot

Have tried a few junkyards within close distance. No luck. Think about trying Used Auto Parts. They claim to send out a finder message to several yards throughout the country.

Re: clutch lever boot

Thanks for the web site. Got an email back from junkyarddog -- no part. Ford must have make only a limited clutch cover shields. Thanks for the information. Will sure give WeGotUsed a try. About ready to try midnight auto, but can not get under these Mustangs without a lift so that idea is out.

Re: clutch lever boot

A very sound idea. My wife suggested something similar -- take the metal shield purchased from Bob's Fords and try to reshape it to fit. Probably take a piece of sheet metal and form it until there is something that at least covers the clutch lever opening in the bellhousing. Thanks for the response.

Re: clutch lever boot

I actually run mine without the shield, have noticed no adverse affects, but my car is a really loud deal too.

chucked it going down the parkway after a hard shift
(the second time this happened)

Re: clutch lever boot

I have not noticed any adverse affects without the clutch lever shield. Concerned about all the dust and sand in this desert area. Just don't want any problems when I get called out by one of those 4 cylinder rice burners with the mega-horn muffler. Thought about putting duck tape over the opening in the bellhousing. Ford must have made a little over 5,000 1994 Cobras and only 3 clutch lever shields. If I lose one on the street, I sure would go back and look for it because they are a rare item.
