Question WTB... this car

1986, FORD, MUSTANG AutoTrader Classics - Buy and Sell Antique Cars, Classic Cars, Muscle Cars
the reason being its my birth year if anyone was curious.
Few questions.

What do you think?
Is it an 86 or an 87?
Do you think i could get it for less?
HP and TQ?
level of difficulty/ cost to mod?

thank you for your help in advance.

Re: WTB... this car

Unless the person did a conversion on it, that's at least an 87 because 86's were still "4-eyes"...

Nope, no chance. I would be wary of that car. Something just doesn't seem right. They say it's an '86, but it looks like an '87+. Also, the wheels aren't right for a GT. The GTs came with either the Turbine or Pony wheels depending on the year. Those were only available on the LX.

Re: WTB... this car

Personally I wouldn't buy pre 89 as they were speed density FI instead of the much more desirable mass-air.
GT's came with the turbine wheels untill 1991 when the swithed to pony's. I know this cause the fenders off my 1990 had to be modified to fir the ground effect off my 1991 when I switched them out. The piece between the wheel, and the front fender is actually about and inch shorter at the bottom after 1991 to allow for wheel clearance the 16 inch pony needed replacing the 15 inch turbine. So, if you are interested in say 17 inch wheels (such as my Cobra R's) I would want a 1991-1993.

would have absolutely agreed untill I found this:
1986 Mustang Commercials
Look closely at the first car in comercial!
The link to the car ad by the poster is no longer good.
I would be interested in if it had square, or round fog lights.

You're right, that was a total brain fart. The 85-86 GTs did indeed come with the 10-hole wheels.

anything buying a mustang that old you must be careful, many thing they are worth their weight in gold... when they are ragged out pos's you just have to wait for the right one to roll through.

That 1st car in the commercial is an SVO. The front ends on the 87-93 were loosely based of the front of that car.
