Bump Steer Kit

Out of no where today I heard a loud pop while backing out of a parking spot. (To make it worse I was leaving the hospital) To make a long story short, I broke the stud on my outer tie rod end. The rest is hanging down and the stud is still in the spindle. I'll post pics when I get the parts to do the swap.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

I put a bumpsteer on my car, UPR if I recall correctly. No problems since the intall.

You'll need an alignment however...

This was the UPR kit. I ordered a new kit but I also called to ***** because this is the second UPR item that I've had break on me.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

Sorry for the bad pic but here's the damage. The stud is still in the spindle with the lock nut still on tight. It scratched the hell out of my wheel too. Im talking with UPR and I sent them the picture too so hopefully they will help me out. My car is my dd so im screwed without it.

Anyone have, or had any problems with Steeda's bump steer?

Good luck with the fix.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

MM makes the best suspension parts out there! You pay a little more but they are worth the extra money. I'm dealing with UPR right now and their customer service sucks. It's been over a week and I still don't even have a part coming to me. I keep getting the run around and then no one answers me for days. I used to really like their products and dealing with them but i don't know what the hell happened. I don't know if I would buy from them again after this experience.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

Magazine article claims -- if springs were used to change ride height it also changes the height of the tie rods in relation to the rack. If left unchecked, this can cause the tie rod ends to move in different arcs when the car is in motion. To correct this problem, install offset steering rack bushings to bring the tie rods and rack back into line.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

Offset rack bushings do the same thing as a bumsteer kit, but it's just easier to install. You don't have to remove the rack to do a bumpsteer kit. It obviously cost more for the bumpsteer kit but the hassle it saves is well worth it.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

Just to update everyone. I never did hear back from UPR. I went out and bought stock tie rod ends so I can get the car back in the road. They will be going on tomorrow and I will do a write up about the job. If one of the administrators can tell me where to post it that would be great.

I will never order or deal with UPR EVER again after this experience and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone after the way I was treated. Go with MM if you want great parts and great customer service.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

Yea, it's my dd.....i've been borrowing my roommates truck and bumming rides to work like a shmuck. I just found out that when the bumpsteer kit was installed, they took the nut off that goes on the inner tie rod end. That's fine with the kit because there is a lock nut on the end at the hiem joint. But when I tried to put the stock tie rods on, there is nothing to keep them in place. It's a really weird size too that I can't find anywhere. So i'm screwed. If anyone has these or knows where I can get them, please let me know.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

Well, i have some good news. I finally got UPR to send me the stud, spacers, and lock nuts. I waited 3 weeks for the parts and it took me 15 minutes to do I just took the car to the alignment shop and will have her back this afternoon. I'm happy to have my part but I will never deal with UPR again. I will do a write up on installing a bumpsteer kit, I just need someone to tell me where to post it.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

UPR is trash when it comes to suspension... many of their parts fail. Just say no.

^^ send me the write up with pictures and I can upload it to the article section and get it going
