Considering a Possible Change Of Software. Feedback Needed

We currently use vBulletin as the software that powers Mustang Evolution. However, vBulletin has fallen drastically behind in some new useful features that are currently offered by Invision Power Services

I am considering converting this site to Invision Power Services instead of upgrading to vBulletin 4.

I would be interested to hear some feedback on it when you get a chance.

We would keep the same look and feel as we currently have as far as colors go. This won't happen for awhile if we do choose to go this route. I really think it will be better for the forum than sticking with vBulletin. At the moment at least.

Here is a preview of their new profile commenting system: Invision Power Services -> IP.Board 3.1.0 Development News

You can also integrate your facebook account with IP.Board. It's built in so it will be 100% stable.

One thing to consider Brent, realizing it's your site of course, is how much, if any, the new software would slow down the site. I have 256k DSL, and the site loads fine for me now. Others have faster access, of course. Some members may still be on dialup. Some other sites that I've browsed are really slow; I'll see if I can find out what software they use and I'll PM you. I like this site for it's clean and crisp look and feel. If you can retain that, I won't have any complaints.

It shouldn't affect site load speed. If anything it might be faster. If I choose to go that route I will give plenty of notice and provide plenty of resources to learn the new software. It won't be drastically different in that you will have to relearn the forum.

If you can use facebook you should be able to use the new software fine.

Yea of some sorts. Before I do anything I will have a test server setup that will have the look and feel of what it would be like live on here.

I'm really torn on this. It's going to be a hard decision either way. I'll be discussing my options with IP.Boards lead developer Jan 7 and see if I can't get some concerns I have squashed. A lot will depend on that meeting.
