Reputation Bars?

Now I'm not sure if this has been discussed here at all or not.. but I searched the forum and found nothing. I'm curious, as to what it would take or why we don't have the reputation option.

Since I've been a member I only have a couple posts per day but when I do post here asking questions or requesting some opinions.. I get a lot of good feedback which I normally look for a reputation button to give that poster points towards his rep.

What do ya'll think?

How do you abuse it. Regardless they rep button says you cannot give rep to the same person after spreading the love to other members before hand, so it's not like you can sit there and rep every post by one person. You're gonna need to spread it around.

Does that make sense or did I explain that poorly?

The biggest thing was people constantly asking people to give them rep.

Re: Reputation Bars?

Is there a way to disable the reputation option on a specific user or no? Maybe bring it back with a few rules and if people ask to trade rep, remove that option for them. I don't know how it all works out from the admin point of view and what not.

I just feel there should be rep or something similar. There are several posters here that truly have helped me out with their experiences and due to them sharing it helped me make up my mind. You know?

Hmmm. I think it's fine the way it is. Just me. I think a rep button would be abused too much for sure while also being unnecessary.

Yea I hear you and we are always looking for ways to reward the most helpful posters on the site. We will look into something.

Thanks Brent. Must say I do love it here, just putting in some input, like you said to reward the most helpful.

I think this would be cool too. We already have post counts disabled in some areas and its much easier to weed out people trying to boost their post count than it is to find people trading rep.

Ir, we do both! Haha

wow... I'm quoting Joshy....

but yes, our system is fine. In the past this 'rep' thing was sorely abused, and we finally got down to 'did you join to be in a community' or 'did you join just to earn brownie points and be e-popular'? When it gets to a point where the person with higher rep is more valued on this site than the person who is just as helpful but with lower rep, then it needs to be thrown out, and that's what we did.

Edit: just thought of something else... what about the good members of the site who never violate any rules and are friendly, but can't help with much tech? Do they deserve lower rep just because they can't help out much with mechanical questions?

Re: Reputation Bars?

True I guess.. It was just a suggestion. In no way shape or form am I trying to be e-popular, lmao. I'm here to stay regardless of what changes on this site, but I do get what you're saying. Valid points. Hah
