back seat project: Reloaded

well after a while the vinyl started peeling, and i was at harbor freight one day and saw this nifty DA Sander for 30 bucks. so i said to myself "this is THE tool i need to do things right, the second time". so i bought it, came home, ripped off the vinyl and speakers/amp and started sanding. the DA sander made short work of high spots and ridges. what took me a day with the belt sander took me 30 seconds with the DA sander and came out 100x better.

i was using a slit in the vinyl for the seat belt holes, but since no vinyl i was gonna flush mount the covers from the stock side pieces. but i tried that and didnt come out too well, so i decided to use a bondo/reinforced fiberglass body filler mix and covered the gaping hole, and make smaller, more rounded holes that the largest part of the seat belt assembly can fit through.

and here it is with the holes cut out, everything smooth as silk, and primered.

then took some black spraypaint(yes i rattlecanned it cause my last attempt at using a real spray gun failed miserably) and went to work.

alright and now to the second coat and ****s put on. found some leftover chromeloomz from my tbird and decided that it might look pretty sweet with the chrome wire looms with the chrome amp and subs.

tell me what you think about the "finished" finished product. and if you want to see the full install click here.

coming soon: Custom FMIC install(yay get to learn how to weld pipe on this one)

Looks great. Bet you had fun cleaning up after all that sanding. Normally I wouldn't like the chrome wire loom, but yours turned out great.

nah i learnt my lesson(still dusting off **** in the garage from 6 months ago) and i took the project out to the side yard and set up a crate and a little work station. after i was done i just sprayed everything down with water and let the weeds do the rest.

well. its a ****ing piece of ****. because of how it must have sat and settled in, the corner pieces were resting on a bolt, and when it settled it cracked along the top sides. plus since it warped a little from redoing it so much, there is a 1/4 inch gap on both sides between the door sill and the project. and because of that, the doors didnt close all the way.

so its back to the drawing board. its sitting in there now(chipped off bondo and paint to get the doors to close cause i didnt want to take it out yet) but im way to pissed to take pics of it.

ill be doing the FMIC this week or next, but come next month ill be laying yet another mold of fiberglass, this time a whole lot thicker(prolly a good 6 layers up back) and will have metal ribs for reinforcement. the amp will be recessed but still in the middle, but the subs will be at a 45* angle. its gonna look alot like this.

plus doing it this way, ill be putting those blue backlight speakers from best buy where he put his mid ranges. where you see where he put the top amp, thats going to be the flame one i have now, and in the bottom slot is gonna be a seperate amp for the other car speakers, prolly audiobahn also.

oh one thing im pleased with, is when i redid it this time, i basically bolted the subs down(not ****ty screws) with washers and ****, and they hit harder and sound 100% better than before(they would vibrate at high bass)

i will later down the line. but right now these subs are fine cause im not into ungodly amounts of bass, just low enough to enhance overall sound clarity, and maybe just enough for some bumping. im not into setting off car alarms. besides, most of my money goes into going fast anyways, and subs dont add hp(unless youre a civic owner).
