'99 mustang gt rear 8.8

i picked up the rearend today and im gonna get started on this project this weekend. I plan on sanding it completely down and painting it black with duplicolor 500degree paint i have from doing calipers.
Next, im thinking about taking it to a shop and having it looked over and getting new bearings and seals
then, im planning on swapping my '03 axles rotors and calipers into the 8.8 rear cause they are in much better shape.. however the axles i think would be okay but i still wanna put my '03's on.
then im looking at buying quad shocks and possibly LCA's but i donno if they will be necessary... will my stock control arms and shocks work fine with this rear?

get all the rust off or it will bubble up and eventually start looking bad again.... they make rust paint that keeps it from comming though I do belive.

Re: '99 mustang gt rear 8.8

your oem equipment will work fine on the new rear. About the only thing to look into is if you have ABS and this one does not or what not *traction control*

Re: '99 mustang gt rear 8.8

swaping axles is easy (if you have traction control or abs stuff it makes it harder) as far as bearings not really sure.

if it's a standard ford 8.8 off a gt it's 28 spline.

Re: '99 mustang gt rear 8.8

31 spline is just stronger, trust me you wont break it with out some massive power or very very sticky tires and alot of power.

you have or dont have abs/trac control?

Re: '99 mustang gt rear 8.8

i have abs and trac control; plus what are the odds that a 99gt rear with 55kmiles needs new clutches in the tlok?

Re: '99 mustang gt rear 8.8

it should be fine, i wouldnt mess with new tlok clutches. does it not have tlok? abs wont be a problem i dont belive cuz you can just use your stock axles i do belive... not sure what else it takes.

Re: '99 mustang gt rear 8.8

Dont bother with quad shocks... If youre gonna put new LCA's and what not on it anyway, the quad shocks will essentially be worthless. Those shocks are there for wheel hop problems, If you havnt experienced it, you more than likely wont start.
