Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

hopefully it looks worse than it is and can be bored out fresh. The intake ports all had sitting water in them as well, so they are going to need some love too. No rust in them at least. The upper intake is a bit moldy, so that's going to need love as well.

Re: Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

Get it running for now before the 4 banger gives up on life. Going to be fairly stock for now so I can keep it at a dd. Then I'll either do the 460 plans I had or a nice 351 swap.

It's not that bad. A 30 over bore will take care of that

That's not that bad man, you'll be amazed what a machine shop will do with the block. Definitely get it tanked and checked, well worth the money.

Re: Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

Got prices....$225 for said tanking, boring, decking, freeze plugging, magnafluxing, and honing. Much less than I had expected.

However, I am going to look at the cobra mentioned above first. I could get a running motor, trans, suspension, computer, dash, wiring harness, console, accessories, and rear end I would need for a complete revamp for a fraction of what it would cost.

Re: Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

After looking at that you might want to shop for another block....depending on what caused that the block might be through.

Re: Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

Believe it or not, the block looks to be in good shape. Only minor surface rust in spots in some of the cyls, a bulk of the rust wiped off with a rag. The skirts are all intact and clean. The crank looks good. The cam is good. There are no nicks, gouges, wear marks in the cyl walls. In fact, other than the couple of rust spots where the rings were rusted to the block, the walls all look fresh with the normal honing marks. I was quite shocked actually.

However, the block and crank will be going to the machine shop to verify conditions. Not 100% sure if I am going to stay stock crank or not since I obviously have to get new rods and pistons anyhow. May go with a mile stroke to 331 while I'm at it.

The cobra option is real and if I had the 1200 right now, I could get it. However, I don't have enough cash laying around to get it before christmas.

Re: Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

sounds good, my friend picked up a 302 block that was painted and looked good... the painted part was covering a little broke place that pretty much made the block uselss

Re: Tore down the motor today. Ouch.

Yeah. Called. Needs 500-600 deposit to hold it. I'm a bit short for a couple weeks. I'm going to call back when I have the cash and see if it is still avail.
